Here are the ways that actually work, what each one gets you, and where to put them afterwards. *A Savepad bookmarks list with saved posts, threads and links, each with its source and tags* **TLDR** - X has no “export bookmarks” button, and your data archive doesn’t include them. - Bookmark folders are a Premium feature. Free accounts get one long list. - The realistic options: a browser extension that scrolls your bookmarks and writes a CSV, or the X API if you’re a developer with a paid plan. - Once you’ve got a CSV, put it somewhere that keeps a copy of each post, because posts get deleted and accounts get suspended. ## Why this is annoying X bookmarks are where a lot of us keep threads, launch posts, ad examples and “save this for later” stuff. Thousands of them, in one reverse-chronological list with a search box that mostly doesn’t find things. And there’s no way out. **Settings → Your account → Download an archive of your data** gets you your posts, likes and DMs. Not your bookmarks. Folders only exist if you pay for Premium, and they don’t export either. ## Option 1: a browser extension There are a handful of Chrome extensions that open your bookmarks page, scroll through all of it and save every post as a CSV or JSON file (search the Chrome Web Store for “X bookmarks export”). Some export folders too, if you’re on Premium. What to watch for: - **They see your X session.** Pick one with a lot of users and recent reviews, and remove it when you’re done. - **Big lists take a while.** Thousands of bookmarks means a lot of scrolling. Leave the tab alone while it runs. - **Check what you get.** You want at least the post URL, the author, the text and the date. ## Option 2: the X API If you’re a developer, the API has a bookmarks endpoint. You need a paid API plan and to log in as yourself with OAuth, and it returns your bookmarks in pages. Worth it if you’re already paying for API access. Not worth signing up for just this. ## Option 3: by hand If you only care about the best 50, open your bookmarks, copy the links you care about into a note, and let the rest go. Honestly, this is the option most people should take. Nobody’s ever scrolled back through 2,316 bookmarks, and you won’t be the first. ## Where to put them *A saved X thread about onboarding emails* 0692 · x.com · #lifecycle *A saved X post with landing page tips* 0789 · x.com · #landing-pages *A saved launch announcement post* 0886 · x.com · #launches X bookmarks after an import: posts saved with their text, so a thread you saved in 2022 still reads the same after the account is gone. A CSV full of links has the same problem the bookmarks page had: it’s just addresses. Posts get deleted, accounts get locked, and a link to a deleted post is a link to nothing. So wherever they go, make sure it keeps a copy of the post itself, and that you can search the text. A spreadsheet won’t. Notion kind of will, if you paste each one in by hand. Then tag them properly, in bulk, and delete the half you don’t need. From then on, save new posts by pasting the link, or sharing it from your phone to your Savepad email address, instead of hitting the bookmark icon.
