# Milanote vs Miro

Milanote and Miro are both canvases, built for different rooms. How they compare for moodboards and references, and when you want a library instead of a board.

**TLDR**

- **Milanote** is a calm canvas for creative projects. One person or a small team, moodboards, briefs, client boards.
- **Miro** is a big whiteboard for workshops, diagrams, and a room full of people. It can do moodboards, it’s just not built for them.
- **Savepad** isn’t a canvas. It’s the library the boards get built from. Most people asking “Milanote or Miro?” for references actually want this.

## Milanote

Milanote is built for creative work. Drop images, notes, links, colours, and to-dos onto a board, nest boards inside boards, and share with a client who can comment. It’s calm and pretty and designers love it. Free for 100 items, then paid.

**Good at:** moodboards, briefs, planning a shoot or a campaign, client boards.
**Less good at:** keeping references for years, searching what’s on 40 boards.

## Miro

Miro is a whiteboard. Sticky notes, flowcharts, templates for every workshop format, and a dozen people dragging things around at once. Huge in product and agile teams. Free for three editable boards.

**Good at:** workshops, retros, diagrams, user journey maps, big teams.
**Less good at:** feeling like a moodboard tool, keeping a private library.

## Savepad

Savepad has no canvas at all, so if you want to arrange things spatially it’s the wrong tool. What it does is keep every reference you save (an ad, a page with a full-page snapshot, an email, a font, a screenshot with its text read) in folders and tags, searchable by text and colour. When a project starts, you pull what you need into a folder and share it. The [moodboards use case](https://savepad.app/use-cases/moodboards) shows it.

References kept in a Savepad library, then pulled into a folder for one project instead of rebuilt on a new board.

## So which?

Planning a creative project with a client: Milanote. Running a workshop with 12 people: Miro. Tired of rebuilding the same references on every new board: a library, and boards only when you need to present. ## FAQ

### Is Milanote better than Miro?

For a creative project with one person or a small team, usually yes: it's calmer and made for visual work. For workshops, diagrams, and big teams, Miro.

### Is Miro good for moodboards?

It works, and if your team already uses Miro it's easy. It feels like a whiteboard with images on it, not a tool made for moodboards.

### Can I use Milanote or Miro as a swipe file?

You can, but boards don't scale into a library. After a year you have dozens of boards and no way to search what's on them.
