# Connect an assistant (MCP)

Point Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor at your library over MCP, with the permission levels you're comfortable with.

Savepad has no AI inside it. But if you use an assistant, you can connect it to your library over MCP, on every plan.

## Set it up

1. Go to **Settings > MCP** and create a token. Give it a name, like “Claude on my laptop”.
2. Pick what it’s allowed to do (see below).
3. Copy the setup command for your assistant from the same page, and run it.

The Savepad MCP server runs on your side, with your token. Savepad itself never calls a model.

## Permission levels

| Level | What your assistant can do |
| --- | --- |
| Capture | Save new things. Nothing else (the default) |
| Read | Search your library and open saves |
| Organise | Move saves between folders and add tags |

Start with capture, and add more when you’re comfortable.

## Ask it things

- “Save this link to my Paid social folder”
- “Find every onboarding flow I saved this year”
- “Tag everything from stripe.com with #pricing”

## Cut it off

Delete the token in **Settings > MCP** and that assistant loses access straight away.
