# What Savepad does with a save

Titles, previews, full-page screenshots, reading copies, colours, and the words in your images. What Savepad pulls out of everything you save, and how long it takes.

You save something, the card shows up straight away, and it says **Working on it** for a few seconds. In that time Savepad goes and gets everything it can about the thing you saved. Nobody’s asking a model. It’s parsing, reading files, and taking pictures.

![A new Savepad card saying Working on it, then the same card a few seconds later with its title, preview, and type, and a list of what Savepad pulled out](https://savepad.app/shots/a-new-savepad-card-saying-working-on-it-then-62ba80.png)

The card shows up straight away and fills in by itself.

## For a link

- **The title, description, favicon, and preview image** the page gives search engines and social networks.
- **A full-page screenshot**, top to bottom, the way the page looked the day you saved it. Pages get redesigned all the time. Your snapshot doesn’t.
- **A reading copy** of the text, for [reading mode](https://savepad.app/docs/reading-mode) and for search. Every word on the page is searchable, not just the title.
- **The colours** in the preview image.
- **Recipe details** if the page has them, and **ad details** for [ad library links](https://savepad.app/docs/ad-library-links).

Some sites don’t let anyone read them (looking at you, Instagram). The link still saves and still works, you just get less of a preview. Screenshot it and drop the screenshot in next to it, and you have the picture and the link.

## For an image

- **The words in it**, read with OCR on our own servers, so a search for “Run further” finds the billboard photo. Nothing goes to a third party.
- **Its colours**, as hex codes you can copy.
- **Location data is stripped** when you save, so your camera roll’s GPS doesn’t end up anywhere it shouldn’t.

## For files

- **PDFs** get their text pulled out, scanned pages included, so search finds the page.
- **Emails** get the sender, the subject, the preheader, the date they went out, and the tool that sent them. Images in them are copied over, so opening one later never pings the sender’s tracker.
- **Routes** get drawn on a map with the distance and climb.
- Everything else is kept exactly as you sent it.

## How long it takes

A few seconds for most things. A big PDF, a long page, or a batch of 200 screenshots takes longer, and you can keep working while it does. Each card fills in as soon as it’s ready.

## Changing what Savepad got

Click the title to rename it. Write in **Why you saved it** to add a note. Everything else is ready to [search](https://savepad.app/docs/search) as soon as the card fills in.

Each type has its own page: [images](https://savepad.app/docs/images-and-screenshots), [emails](https://savepad.app/docs/emails), [PDFs](https://savepad.app/docs/pdfs), [routes](https://savepad.app/docs/routes), and the rest are listed in [every way to save](https://savepad.app/docs/ways-to-save#every-type-in-detail).
