## How it works

Type your page title and meta description, and this Google SERP preview shows your snippet the way it shows up in search, on desktop and on a phone.

Google cuts titles and descriptions by pixel width, not by character count. A title full of capital Ws gets cut long before one full of lower-case i’s. So the preview measures the actual width of your text in the font Google uses and cuts it where Google would.

## FAQs

### How long should a title tag be?

Keep it under about 600 pixels, which is roughly 50 to 60 characters. Past that Google cuts it with an ellipsis.

### How long should a meta description be?

About 920 pixels on desktop, roughly 150 to 160 characters. On a phone it gets cut a little earlier.

### Does Google always use my meta description?

Nope. Google rewrites it when it thinks another bit of your page answers the search better. A good description still gets used most of the time.
