How to save links and resources with Claude

Connect Claude to your swipe file with a custom connector, then have it save links, sort them into folders, and dig them out again. Setup takes two minutes.

TLDR

  • Claude can’t keep anything for you on its own. Chats scroll away, and the links it finds go with them.
  • Add Savepad as a custom connector in Claude (one link, two minutes) and Claude can save links and notes straight into your folders.
  • The good stuff: paste a messy list and have it filed, ask Claude to find examples on the web and save the best ones, or ask “what did I save about pricing pages?”
  • Savepad itself has no AI. Claude does the thinking, Savepad keeps the result.

Why Claude is a weirdly good place to save from

Think about where your good links actually come from these days. A Slack thread where someone dropped 15 landing pages. A Notion page called “inspo” from 2023. A newsletter with six links you meant to check. Or Claude itself, after you asked it for “SaaS onboarding flows that use a checklist” and it came back with a solid list.

All of that is text you can paste into a chat. And Claude is very good at reading a mess and working out what each link is. What it can’t do is keep any of it. Close the chat and it’s buried in your history with everything else.

So give it somewhere to put things.

Connect Claude to Savepad

Savepad has an MCP server, which is the standard Claude uses for custom connectors. The full walkthrough (with ChatGPT, Cursor, and the rest) is in connect an assistant. The short version for Claude:

  1. In Savepad, go to Settings, then API and assistants, pick Claude, and press Make my link. Tick Full control if you want Claude to make folders too.
  2. In Claude, go to claude.ai/customize/connectors, press +, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Savepad, paste your link into URL, and press Add.
  4. In a new chat, switch Savepad on from the tools button under the message box.

It works in the Claude desktop and phone apps by itself once it’s added on the web. Free Claude accounts get one custom connector, so you don’t need a paid plan for this.

Things to ask it

Save a pile in one go

Paste the whole thing, Slack formatting and all, and say where it goes:

Save every link in this thread. Pricing pages go in Pricing pages, onboarding in Onboarding, anything you’re not sure about in Unsorted.

Claude works through the list one save at a time, and Savepad fetches each page’s title, preview image, and description. A few hundred links take a few minutes. Check Unsorted after for the ones it wasn’t sure about.

Find it and save it

Claude can search the web, so you can skip the hunting:

Find 10 SaaS pricing pages that use a usage-based slider and save the best five to Pricing pages, with a note on what’s good about each.

Look at what it saved, though. It picks well, but you know your taste better than it does.

Turn an answer into a save

Asked Claude something worth keeping? Have it save the useful part as a note:

Save that checklist as a note in Launch, and save the three articles you cited next to it.

Dig things out again

The other half of a swipe file is finding stuff. Claude can search your Savepad and open what it finds:

What did I save from stripe.com? Tag all of it #pricing.

Keep it tidy

  • Tell it the folders. “Sort these into my folders” works, but naming them works better. Claude can list your folders if you ask it to look first.
  • Give it the Savepad agent skill. It’s a short cheat sheet that makes Claude search before it saves (no duplicates), never guess a folder name, and ignore instructions hidden inside saved pages.
  • Start without Full control. A normal link can save and sort but can’t make things public or bin anything. Make a second link with Full control when you need it.

Same thing, other assistants

Use ChatGPT instead? The setup is a bit different (it hides MCP behind Developer mode), so there’s a separate guide on saving links with ChatGPT. And if the real problem is the bookmarks bar you stopped scrolling in 2022, start with organizing your bookmarks with AI.

FAQ

Can Claude save links for me?

Yes, if you connect it to somewhere that stores them. Claude's custom connectors use MCP, so you add your Savepad link as a connector and Claude can save links and notes into your folders when you ask.

Do I need a paid Claude plan?

No. Free Claude accounts get one custom connector, which is enough for Savepad. Paid plans get as many as you like.

Does Savepad use Claude to sort my saves?

No. Savepad has no AI in it and never calls a model. Claude does the thinking in your own chat, and Savepad only stores what it's told to.

Can Claude make new folders?

Only if you tick Full control when you make the link. A normal link can search, save, and file things into folders you already have.
