Raindrop alternatives
Raindrop is a great bookmark manager that now has an AI assistant on Pro. The alternatives worth a look if you want links, a swipe file, or just less AI.
TLDR
- Raindrop is one of the best bookmark managers out there, it’s been around forever, and the free plan is generous. Most people don’t need to leave.
- People who do leave usually want one of three things: something simpler, something that keeps the whole page and not just the link, or something with no AI in it.
- Raindrop Pro now lists an AI assistant and AI suggestions. If that’s your reason, the options below have none.
First, should you even leave?
Probably not, honestly. Raindrop is cheap, it’s on every device, it has browser extensions everywhere, and the free plan has unlimited bookmarks. If you save links and find them by title, it does the job better than most.
The reasons people search for an alternative tend to be:
- They’re drowning. 6,000 bookmarks, 80 collections, and still no idea where that one pricing page went.
- The page died. Permanent copies of pages are a Pro feature. On Free, a dead link is just a dead link.
- AI creep. Raindrop’s Pro plan now lists an AI assistant (Stella) and AI suggestions. Some people want that. Some people really, realllllly don’t.
Work out which one is yours, because the answer is different for each.
If you just want simpler
Your browser’s own bookmarks. Free, already there, and they sync if you stay in one browser. The how to organize bookmarks post has a structure that keeps them sane. They fall apart once you have a few thousand.
Pinboard is the old-school one. Plain, fast, text-only, a small yearly fee, and run by one person for well over a decade. No previews, no AI, no fuss. If you liked the internet in 2012, you’ll like Pinboard.
If you want the whole page kept
Instapaper and Readwise Reader keep a clean text copy of articles so you can read them later. They’re reading apps first. Great for long reads, less so for keeping a homepage or an ad as it looked.
Savepad gives every link gets a full-page screenshot at desktop and phone width plus a clean reading copy, on every plan. When the page gets redesigned or dies, you still have the version you saved. Search reads the text of the page, so you can find it by a sentence you half remember. There’s more on that in the bookmark manager use case.
If you want no AI anywhere
This one’s simple. Pinboard has none. Your browser’s bookmarks have none. Savepad has none, on purpose, and never will: no auto-tagging, no summaries, nothing sent to a model. If you want an assistant to read your library, you can connect your own over MCP, and Savepad itself still never calls one. The philosophy page has the long version of why.

Moving out of Raindrop
Raindrop exports CSV and HTML from its settings. In Savepad, go to Settings → Import and export, drop in either file, and your collections come across as folders, with tags and notes intact. Then Savepad fetches every page again in the background and makes fresh previews, and tells you which ones have died since you saved them. The import docs list every format, and if you’re also cleaning out your browser, start with exporting your bookmarks.
The longer head-to-head is on the Raindrop alternative page. And if you’re comparing a few at once, the best bookmark managers post covers the whole field.
