Visual bookmark managers
A visual bookmark manager shows a preview of each link so you recognise it at a glance. What counts as visual, which ones keep a real screenshot, and how to pick.
TLDR
- A visual bookmark manager shows a picture of each link in a grid, so you recognise it the way you’d recognise a photo.
- Most use the page’s share image (the og:image), which is often a logo or a stock photo. A few take a real screenshot of the page.
- If you save links for how they look (landing pages, design, ads), pick one that screenshots. If you save articles, a preview card is fine.
Why visual matters
Your brain is much better at recognising a picture than reading 400 titles. “That pricing page with the green toggle” is a memory of how it looked. A list of Pricing | Company titles doesn’t help with that. A grid of the pages themselves does.
Share image vs real screenshot
This is the bit nobody explains. Most tools grab the page’s og:image, the picture a site sets for link previews on social. Sometimes it’s a nice illustration. Often it’s just the logo on a coloured background, the same for every page on the site. So 30 bookmarks from one site look identical.
A real screenshot is a picture of the page as it was when you saved it. That’s what you want for anything visual. Paste a link into Slack or a LinkedIn post draft and you’ll see what its share image looks like.
The options
Savepad. Every link gets a full-page screenshot at desktop and phone width, plus its og:image, colours, and fonts. Grid, masonry, list, or map view. Search reads the text of the page, so you can find it by a phrase too. Free for 150 saves.
Raindrop. Card and grid views with the page’s share image. Free, unlimited links. A great default if you save articles.
Pinterest. Visual by nature, but it pins an image, not the page, and it’s public-first.
Your browser’s Speed Dial (Opera, Vivaldi, and extensions for Chrome). Thumbnails for your top 20 sites. Not a library.
