The best ad swipe file tools
Most ad swipe file lists are written by ad spy tools ranking themselves first. Here's the field with real prices, which ones use AI, and which save more than ads.
TLDR
- If you run paid social for brands every day, you want an ad tool with discovery and competitor tracking: Foreplay or Swipekit, maybe Motion for your own ad data.
- If ads are one part of your job, you want a swipe file that keeps the ad, the page it linked to, and the emails that followed. That’s Savepad, or a DIY setup in Notion or Drive.
- Almost every “best ad swipe file tools” list you’ll find is written by one of the tools on it. This one is too (we make Savepad), so I’ve put real prices and the trade-offs in the table and you can judge.
Two very different jobs
The phrase “ad swipe file tool” covers two kinds of software, and most lists mash them together.
Ad intelligence tools go looking for ads for you. They scrape the ad libraries, let you search millions of ads, track what your competitors launch, and sometimes connect to your own ad accounts to report on performance. They’re priced for teams: $26 to $459 a month.
Swipe files keep what you found. You save an ad because it stopped you scrolling, write down why, and find it again in six months when you’re writing a brief. They’re priced for people: free to about $12 a month.
If you’re a media buyer at an agency, you want the first kind. If you’re a marketer, founder, designer, or copywriter, you want the second, and the free ad libraries do the discovery for you.
For paid social teams
Foreplay. The most popular of the bunch. Swipe file, a search over hundreds of millions of ads, briefs, and on the Workflow plan, competitor tracking (Spyder) and your own ad analytics (Lens). $59 a month, $49 billed yearly, for one user on Basic. $175 a month for Workflow.
Swipekit. Same shape for less. $26 a month for five seats and five tracked brands, 14 days free with no card. AI Scripts turn a saved ad into a storyboard. The Foreplay vs Swipekit post compares them properly.
Eden. A ready-made library of ads with AI writing tools next to your swipe file, so you can turn an ad into a script. Free to browse, Pro is $79 a month.
Motion. Creative analytics on your own ads, with a swipe file built in. Priced on spend, built for bigger budgets.
MagicBrief. Was on every one of these lists. It shut down on 31 July 2026.
For everyone else
Savepad (🔌). It keeps the ad, the landing page it pointed to (as a full-page snapshot), the welcome email you got after signing up, and the onboarding flow in order. Search reads the text inside all of it, screenshots included, and you can filter by colour. No AI, no discovery, no tracking. Free for 150 saves, then €4.99 or €9.99 a month.
Notion. A database with a gallery view and the web clipper. Free, flexible, and your team might already live there. It gets painful around 500 rows, which the swipe file in Notion post goes into.
Airtable. A database you build yourself, a row per ad with columns for brand, angle, and format. Great if you love systems, a chore if you just want to save the thing.
Google Drive. A folder of screenshots with sensible names. Free and it works, until you need to search for the words inside the ad. How to build a swipe file in Google Drive has the setup.
Pinterest secret boards. Free, visual, private. You’ll be fighting the algorithm and the AI pins the whole way.

Whatever you pick, these are where the ads come from:
- Meta Ad Library for Facebook and Instagram

- LinkedIn Ad Library for B2B

How to pick
Ask yourself one thing: do I need software to find ads, or to remember them? If finding, Foreplay or Swipekit. If remembering, a swipe file, and the ad swipe file post shows how to fill one from the free libraries in an afternoon. Still unsure? Do you need an ad spy tool or just a swipe file? goes through it.
FAQ
What is an ad swipe file?
A collection of ads you liked, kept so you can come back to them when you're writing your own. Most marketers save the ad plus a note on why it works, and ideally the landing page it pointed to.
What's the best free ad swipe file tool?
The free ad libraries (Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Google) show you ads but don't keep them. To keep them for free, Savepad holds 150 saves, and a Notion or Google Drive folder works if you don't mind the setup.
Do I need an ad spy tool?
Only if finding ads you've never seen is a big part of your job, like running paid social for several brands. If you mostly need to keep ads you came across, a swipe file is enough.
